Jane May has been an avid supporter of Dana-Farber for more than 22 years.

She gets up very early, frequently "in the dark," several days each week to make the trip from her home in Scituate, Mass., to Dana-Farber, where she carries out her duties as co-chair of the Friends' Corner Gift Shop. The all-volunteer gift shop is an oasis for patients and their families, with all profits earmarked to support research and patient care programs at Dana-Farber.

Jane has been instrumental in putting the gift shop online, automating its sales and inventory functions. She particularly enjoys speaking with the many patients, staff and visitors who come to the gift shop each day.

During her tenure on the Friends' Board, Jane has been a liaison with staff, served as recording secretary and vice president of membership, and several times has been a member of the nominating committee. She is a recipient of the Simberg Award, in recognition of her outstanding volunteer service to Dana-Farber, and she was also honored by a local television station as one of its "hometown heroes."

Jane lives in Scituate. She and her husband Walter have six children and eleven grandchildren, all of whom live nearby. Avid sailors, Jane and Walter have owned many boats over the years and have sailed to many great destinations between Maine and the Bahamas. All the children and grandchildren have joined them on sailing excursions. Jane also enjoys arranging automobile "mystery trips" for her grandchildren.

In her spare time, Jane indulges her keen interest in reading and art and is a frequent visitor to art galleries. In addition to her work for Dana-Farber, Jane is involved in Habitat for Humanity's home building initiatives.
