National Marrow Donor Program at Dana-Farber
Dana-Farber's donor center is a fully accredited member of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). With over 5.5 million volunteer donors, the NMDP is the largest, most diverse registry in the world, and is accredited by the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA). The NMDP has facilitated more than 20,000 marrow or blood stem cell transplants for patients who do not have matching donors in their families.
Dana-Farber's facilities also include accredited marrow and peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection centers, and a transplant center that facilitates donor searches for Dana-Farber patients.
Our donor center facilitates approximately 50 marrow and blood stem cell donations per year for patients throughout the United States and the world. And our transplant center performs 150 unrelated donor transplants per year for Dana-Farber patients. In June 2005, we celebrated our 1,000th unrelated transplant.
Our donor center:
- Recruits potential donors throughout New England;
- Educates donors about the registration and donation process; and
- Acts as donor advocate, looking out for the donor's best interests throughout the recruitment, matching, and donation processes.
Our recruitment efforts focus on increasing the diversity of tissue types available and registering donors who are committed to helping any patient in need. We work with families, communities, businesses and other groups to raise awareness and recruit committed individuals to join the donor registry.
Before joining the NMDP, we ask that you review the information on these pages to ensure your commitment to the many patients searching for their miracle match.
