Adult survivorship clinic launched with Armstrong gift

Dana-Farber has expanded its commitment to serving cancer survivors of all ages with a $1 million grant from the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The gift, announced this fall, will allow the Institute to continue its leadership in this area with the same resolve that this cycling champion used to build a life after cancer treatment.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation Adult Survivorship Clinic will focus on the needs of patients who faced cancer as adults. Along with the David B. Perini, Jr. Quality of Life Clinic, which for 10 years has supported survivors of childhood cancer, it will be part of DFCI's recently created Perini Family Survivors' Center—one of only a few comprehensive programs in the nation that treat, educate, and learn from cancer survivors.

The new clinic will provide medical and psychosocial care for problems survivors may face; conduct research to better understand long-term effects and develop therapies with fewer consequences; help educate medical students, fellows, and other health-care professionals; and share information with other cancer centers.

"With 10 million Americans living beyond cancer," says Center Director Lisa Diller, MD, "we're honored to team up with the Lance Armstrong Foundation to help address their concerns."
