The SHADE/Shonda and Curt Schilling Skin Cancer Prevention Initiative
With a generous gift from the SHADE Foundation, the Center for Community Based Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is creating the SHADE/Shonda and Curt Schilling Skin Cancer Prevention Initiative, which will be dedicated to significantly lowering the incidence rates of skin cancer in the United States. This initiative will focus on:
Extensive distribution of guidelines outlining proven skin cancer prevention methods to children and their families through schools and other organizations.
Evaluation of current public awareness campaigns and development of more effective media outreach methods to communicate skin cancer prevention messages to youth, young adults, and families
Dana-Farber will combine its own resources with that of other key leaders in skin cancer prevention throughout Boston and nationally to maximize skin cancer prevention outreach, develop behavior change models, and evaluate the efficacy of communication methods.
Key leadership for the initiative is being provided by an Executive Committee that includes representation from: Boston University School of Public Health, Massachusetts Melanoma Foundation, American Cancer Society, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the SHADE Foundation. It is our mission through this commitment to educate and outreach, and to provide a critical resource to the next generation about how to prevent skin cancer.
